    Yogi Manners and Policies.

    Your Yoga.

Be present. Honor your body. Respect your limitations. Recognize your injuries. Acknowledge your weaknesses. Believe in your strengths. This is your practice. Modify when needed. It’s great to challenge yourself, but it’s best to honor where you’re at in your yoga practice. We’d rather see you respecting your body than pushing yourself for a preconceived goal of where you think you should be.

If we believe the Divine is present everywhere and in everyone, our behavior comes to reflect it. Live your yoga moment by moment and try to practice compassion and respect in all dealings – with yourself first, with fellow trainees, studio staff, mentors, teachers, the studio space… and eventually, everyone and everywhere.

Lastly, be patient and kind to yourself. Trust the process. It takes commitment and sacrifice to embark on this journey. Humbly bow to yourself after each practice for showing up for YOU.

Now that you have taken the first step by enrolling with us, we are delighted and honored to be a part of your journey. Let’s make this a safe space to make mistakes, learn from ourselves and each other, and grow. Practice does not make perfect. Practice makes progress. Keep an open mind and an open heart. Find the balance between effort and ease in your practice reflecting Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra Chapter 2:46 “Sthira Sukham Asanam”.

    Yogi Manners.

Be punctual. We do our best to stick to the schedule and finish on time every day, so make it a priority to arrive on time each session.
Habitual tardiness is not acceptable. If you are late more than twice, the third time you will be asked to leave and will need to make up the day according to our make-up policy.
No cellphone usage during class. If you use your cell phone or text during class, you will be asked to leave and will need to make up the day according to our make-up policy.
If you bring lunch, water bottles, or snacks into the studio during breaks, please throw away your trash and clean up after yourself.

    Program Graduation Requirements.

Attendance of in-person class and virtual teacher training sessions.
Successful completion of homework, quizzes/topic reviews and final exam.
Participation in a final in-class practice teaching practicum.
Completion of class-taking requirement (16 classes required).

    Attendance Policies.

Yoga Alliance requires that you complete all 200 hours of the teacher training, however we understand that sometimes conflicts come up, so we have developed the make-up- policy listed below. Please note that you can miss a maximum of 27 hours training hours. If you miss more than 27 hours or do not complete your make up hours, you will receive a not passing status and will be required to pay in full to retake the training.

    Class Make-Up Procedure.

Make-Up Option – Schedule a private session with your trainer at some point during the program. The cost of a private session is $150.00 per hour, paid directly to your trainer.

    • 1 hour private = 1.4 hours of missed time.
    • 5 hour private = 5-6 hours of missed time.
    • 2 hour private = 7-8 hours of missed time.
    • 5 hour private = 9-10 hours of missed time.
    • 3 hour private = 11-13 hours missed time.

    Final Practicum.

During the final days of your training, you will have the opportunity to synthesize what you have learned by teaching a class to your classmates and our guest students. The in-class practicum is a chance for you to demonstrate your understanding of the material and your ability to teach it in a coherent manner. While your practicum plays a role in receiving credit for the program, please do not let concern about this event consume all your energy, as this could compromise your experience along the way. You will have multiple practice teaching opportunities that will prepare you for the experience, and you will be assessed on elements that will be familiar by the time the practicum occurs.

When you stand before the students, it is your room; it is your class. Teach your pose in its entirety -setting your students up, taking them into the pose, giving them some things to work on while in it, and bringing them out.

The specific teaching skills your trainers will be looking for will include:

    • Teaching from the ground up.
    • Use of counter actions.
    • Attention to risk factors.
    • A clear, audible voice; clarity of instruction.
    • Crutch words (um, so, good, right? etc…).
    • Accurate teaching of actions.
    • Clear safe description of entry and exit from your pose.
    • Effective demonstration if necessary.
    • Hands-on adjustments if necessary.
    • Use of variations, modifications, and props if necessary.

“Our E-RYT 200 and RYT-500 Lead Teacher Trainer Czarina, has studied in both Los Angeles and in India, allowing for her style of teaching to be both traditional and accessible for all levels of practitioners – meeting every yogi exactly where they are in their yoga journey. Her practice and teaching consist of Iyengar based- alignment focused sequencing…with emphasis on safe entry and exit of pose, but she also offers challenging, skillful, and dynamic flows that invites room for growth and instills a deeper passion for the practice in every student whether beginners or advanced”. -Hollis Daniel, SLAY student.

“To my beloved yogis: My goal is to teach you that your own personal practice is the one true source for your teaching. You cannot teach what you do not know, or your teaching will not come from an authentic place. While the world is filled with the idea of how modern Yoga is supposed to look and the emphasis has been on the benefits from using asanas as a form of workout, I want your focus to be on how Yoga is supposed to feel and to be reminded that Yoga is first a WORK-IN. Teach from your experience. Teach from your heart. Speak your truth, but always do it with love. The question we ask ourselves should always be “How can I humbly embody and allow yoga to live through me?” – Czarina, Founder of SLAY.
